The next time you’re heading out for a pint or two, consider checking out a couple of Toronto bars that have recently re-launched as homes to good beer.
Magpie at 831 Dundas W. recently changed hands and now features a small but impressive tap list including Church-Key Holy Smoke, Stratford Pilsner, St. Andre, Cameron’s Auburn, and St. Ambroise Stout. New owner & bartender Graeme has created a cozy and relaxed vibe in a formerly cold space.

The Portland Beer House has taken over the recently vacated Amsterdam Brewing location(*) at 600 King St. W., and they have 14 taps to choose from. The current selections include Wellington Trailhead Lager & Imperial Stout, Amsterdam Framboise, Amber & Nut Brown, Niagara Falls Gritstone & Honey Brown, Mill St. Tankhouse & Stock Ale, Steam Whistle & Creemore alongside a few macro offerings. While they are currently using the same floor space as the old Amsterdam bar, they’ll soon be expanding into the area previously occupied by the Amsterdam brewing equipment.

(*) For those who hadn’t heard – Amsterdam is now located at 21 Bathurst St. near Front. The new location does not have a bar, but the retail store is open for business.
