The Abbot on the Hill (1276 Yonge Street) has two events happening next weekend:
Sat Feb 21st: Charles the V’s Birthday
Notorious and colourful ruler Charles the V influenced the world of beer with his unusual preference for beer over wine – uncommon for a medieval aristocrat. The Het Anker Brewery of Belgium has commemorated his life with the Gouden Carolus series of beers.
On the 21st, The Abbot will be celebrating his birthday with a 3-course Belgian prix fixe menu, served with your choice of Gouden Carolus Classic, Gouden Carolus Tripel or Gouden Carolus Ambrio.
$40 – call (416) 920-9074 to reserve.
Sun Feb 22nd: Oscar Party
Sponsored by Tuborg Gold, first brewed in 1895 for export and nicknamed “The Golden Lady” after the company made TV commercials for the beer in the late 1950’s starring model and actress Annette Stroyberg, a Danish Brigitte Bardot.
The Oscars will be on several TVs as well as the speakers throughout the pub. Free platters of oysters and poached shrimp will be on offer, and there will be giveaways including an Oscar pool, thousands of dollars in gift certificates from Catherine Curtis, a gourmet wine basket for the best dressed woman at the party, and a gourmet beer basket for the best dressed man.
Admission is free, but reservations are recommended – call (416) 920-9074 to reserve.
