The following announcement was posted to the Volo website earlier this week:
Ontario brewers have been busy since our last IPA challenge. Two new IPAs have been introduced since then and we now have a respectable local representation of the west-coast style. Who says Ontario isnt ready for hoppy ales. The next challenge will be a blind taste competition featuring six local IPAs. Attendees will be asked to rate their favourite. The Winner will name all six correctly and not only receive a prize (TBA) but earn instant bragging rights, and celebrity amongst their awestruck peers. So, you think you know your IPAs ?, well see about that. Brewers are encouraged to participate too, that could be interesting. The event is scheduled March 3+4, 12p-5p. $12 will get you a slot. Sign Up: info@barvolo.com. Good luck.
A follow-up phone call revealed that each day’s session will be split into ten 30-minute slots, with 3-5 people in each slot, and there will be six 5 oz. samples to taste and rate. And of course, attendees are welcome to hang out before and/or after their tasting slot. If you have a preferred time slot, please mention it in your email, and Ralph & co. will do their best to accommodate you.
Volo will also be hosting a four-course Valentine’s Dinner for $36, with a trio of beer or wine pairings available for an extra $12. Seatings are at 6:30 and 9:30, and reservations are required. As an added bonus – or for those without a date on this most romantic of days – they’ll also be serving oysters and stouts at the bar, including Black Oak’s cask conditioned Chocolate Cherry Stout.
