The Toronto Festival of Storytelling 2006 in conjunction with The City of Toronto Historic Museums is presenting a series of events under the name Fabled City which feature storytellers who have created new stories that reflect Torontos past. One event in particular may be of interest to Bar Towel readers:
FABLED CITY: Brewmaster on the Don
Saturday, April 1st – 4:00 to 6:00 PM
William Helliwell loved brewing beer. In 1832, at the age of 21, he became a partner in the family’s Don Brewery and travelled overseas to study with English brewmasters. Come to Todmorden Mills and taste some of Toronto’s finest beer as William recounts his experiences as a brewer in the Don Valley. Price includes beer tasting and refreshments appropriate to the time.

Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre: Set in the scenic Don River Valley, Todmorden Mills Museum tells the story of early settlement and industry in Toronto. On site are historic millers’ homes, the Brewery Gallery, the Papermill Gallery and Theatre, and the relocated Don train station.
