When it opened 15 years ago, The Rhino Bar & Grill (1249 Queen St. W.) was pretty much the only place in Parkdale to get a decent pint. Over the last few years, a lot of competition has come along to challenge the beer supremacy of this west end watering hole – first The Academy of Spherical Arts, followed closely by Ciro’s, Cadillac Lounge, Mitzi’s Sister, and most recently, The Wroxeter.
But as part of their ongoing renovations & rejuvenations, The Rhino has kicked things up a notch with the launch of a new beer list that features 12 draught lines – including such local micro faves as Mill St. Tankhouse Ale, Denison’s Dunkel and Wellington County Ale – and a very impressive menu of 200+ bottles.
The bottled selection focusses heavily on Ontario micros – with most of them priced in the $3.00 to $3.50 range – plus a well chosen assortment of imports, including many fine Belgians, also at very reasonable prices. Improvements are also planned for their food menu and decor, so it probably won’t be long before one of Parkdale’s favourite hangouts becomes a hot destination for people from the other side of the tracks as well.
